Ethos Veterinary Health

Job Description

Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager, Capital Expenditures & Leases will be a key member of the Controllership team and will report to the Director of Accounting.  This role will form part of our Accounting Center of Excellence (“COE”) team supporting our hospitals and real estate teams in accounting for fixed assets, capital expenditures, construction projects, and leases, and will play a crucial leading role in integrating, aligning, and ultimately elevating our accounting activities for these areas.  This is a unique opportunity to help design and build the future of our organization and to collaborate directly with non-finance business partners on a regular basis.  This role will manage a team of 2-3 individuals who are responsible for accounting activities in these areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day and period-end accounting activities for fixed assets, capital expenditures, construction projects, and leases, including reviewing work performed by direct reports.
  • Serve as the Ethos process owner for capital expenditures and lease accounting.  Identify preferred policies and procedures and align various legacy Ethos business unit practices in these areas, and lead the implementation of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Analyze financial results and data and provide insights to senior management.
  • Establish strong working relationships cross-functionally; partner with Field Operations, Real Estate, Legal, and other non-finance partners to account for new business activities and transactions and provide insight into financial reporting.
  • Support the annual financial statement audit process.
  • Support the company’s implementation of a new fixed assets subledger, using Oracle Fusion Cloud.
  • Support the company’s various corporate maturity initiatives and other projects, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar field.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of accounting or finance experience, including at least 3 years of public accounting.  The ideal candidate will have a mix of public accounting and industry experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, with a preference for strong experience with ASC 842.
  • Experience with accounting for capital expenditures, construction projects, and leases in a healthcare or consumer products/retail environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing internal controls over financial reporting as well as experience managing operational accounting activities.
  • Experience working with an ERP system is required; Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with a lease management system is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including authoring accounting policies and position papers, and the ability to identify, communicate, and influence technical matters, issues, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership or non-finance business partners.
  • Entrepreneurial, process-oriented, and strategic-thinking mindset.  Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.
  • The position is remote but may require occasional travel to offices and sites within the US (10-15%).

Critical Competencies for Success in Role:

  • This is a highly visible role that will regularly interact with business partners in Field Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Lease Administration, and FP&A.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with non-finance business partners and have an ability to ‘connect-the-dots’ across various stakeholder functions to ensure complete and accurate accounting.
  • Ethos is in the midst of a multi-year project to mature its support center functions to the level of an independent company that is subject to requirements for public companies.  The ideal candidate will have experience working in a public company environment.
