The Assistant Hospital Manager serves as a leader and is a vital part of the veterinary hospital leadership team, reporting directly to the Hospital Manager and Managing Veterinarian. This role assists the Hospital Manager and Managing Veterinarian in ensuring a smooth and profitable operation by driving revenue, managing costs, and fostering a hospital culture focused on high-quality patient care and outstanding customer service. Responsibilities encompass (but are not limited to) overseeing, planning, and coordinating the hospital's overall operations while nurturing a supportive and collaborative team environment. Additionally, this position involves fulfilling other roles within the hospital as needed to ensure quality care and client satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
The allocation of time between leadership duties and role responsibilities will differ based on the hospital's specific circumstances. The responsibilities outlined below serve as a guide to help shape the position within the hospital.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews, hire, onboard, and nurture a skilled and productive team dedicated to delivering top-notch care and service to both pets and clients. Collaborate with Hospital Leadership to train and supervise associates daily, ensuring exceptional medical care, client satisfaction, associate engagement, and team productivity.
- Manage lay staff scheduling while keeping staffing costs within budget.
- Facilitate clear communication among associates, clients, and hospital leadership, promoting a collaborative environment that encourages feedback and professional growth.
- Make certain that all staff members follow hospital policies as well as state and OSHA regulations.
- Keep job descriptions current and in line with all local, state, and federal laws.
- Create and oversee training programs, continuing education requirements, and performance management processes.
- Address employee concerns and conflicts, working towards effective resolutions.
- Ensure the organization remains compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Holds regular 1 on 1 check ins with team members to listen, learn, and provides feedback, including performance evaluations and coaching
- Resolves client issues and escalations and oversees client follow-up communication as needed Financial Responsibilities
- Oversight to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Inventory Management
Skills:

• Computer skills i.e., Microsoft Office suite (Previous practice management software knowledge preferred)
• Previous knowledge of HR policies and protocol development
• Staff leadership and management including coaching, developing, and motivating staff
• Delegate responsibility and achieve results through hospital team members
• Responsible for cultivating a supportive and collaborative team environment
• Model and foster an environment that engages associates, where associates do their best and want to be a part of the team
Qualifications:
• Full time position. Must be flexible for weekend support as needed.
• Starting salary will be based on experience with bonus’, PTO (Paid Time Off), health benefits, as well as a generous employee pet discount
- Two plus years of veterinary hospital experience, including veterinary technician and/or assistant experience.
- Experience in management is a plus.
- Experience in a hospital setting in positions of increased responsibility is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or veterinary/medical-related degree is a plus.
The salary range for this position is between $28.00-$36.00 DOE.
