The Veterinary Technician/ Assistant is responsible for client and patient care and for assisting the veterinarian as requested.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • General pet care including: initial evaluation of pet, completing vital signs, reviewing vaccination records, preparing vaccines, anal gland expression, nail trims, ear cleaning
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures using proper technique
  • Maintain and use medical equipment such as IDEXX Procyte/CatalystOne and autoclave
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures and analysis in hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology 
  • Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis
  • Induce and monitor patients under anesthesia, including intubation
  • Administer treatments and injections following the instructions of a doctor or a treatment form
  • Initiate emergency procedures; triage patients 
  • Maintain pharmacy records and controlled drug, anesthesia logs 
  • Take radiographs, with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques  Perform dental cleanings, skin and ear cytologies 
  • Perform catheterization- urinary and venous
  • Basic Customer Service Rep duties including receiving payments, booking appointments, updating client information, etc 

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Certified or experienced (1+ years in field) 
  • Show excellent client communication and telephone skills by being customer service oriented and friendly 
  • Ability to work in a close team environment
  • Must be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks, simultaneously
  • Must also be able to lift 50 pounds, work on feet all day, and write legibly
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends (Saturdays) & holidays if clinic is open 
  • High school education required
