Job Description

We are in search of an amazing vet tech to assist our veterinarians with patient care, examinations, surgeries, dentistry and diagnostic tests. We are a mixed animal practice in a rural setting seeing everything from cats to calves. This job is full time, (4) 10 hours shifts, on-call shifts and rotating Saturday shifts.

Core Responsibilities to Include

·        Patient Care: 

Provide direct care to animals, including administering medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian. 

·        Diagnostic Procedures: 

Collect samples (blood, urine, feces), perform laboratory tests, develop radiographs, and use diagnostic imaging. 

·        Surgical Assistance: 

Prepare surgical instruments and operating areas, assist the veterinarian during procedures, and monitor anesthesia and patient recovery. 

·        Examination Support: 

Conduct initial patient evaluations, take vital signs, collect samples, and restrain animals during exams and procedures. 

·        Record Keeping: 

Accurately document patient histories, treatments, and progress in medical files. 

·        Client Communication: 

Educate pet owners on diagnoses, treatment plans, medication administration, and overall animal care. 

 

 

Clinical Skills: 

 

Proficiency in physical examinations, bandaging, wound care, administering medications, and performing various lab tests and imaging.

Communication Skills: 

 

Ability to clearly explain complex medical information and treatment plans to pet owners. 

·       

Technical Skills: 

 

Expertise in using and maintaining specialized equipment such as anesthetic machines, monitors, and IV pumps. 

·       

Animal Handling: 

 

Comfort and skill in professionally restraining and caring for animals of varying sizes and temperaments. 

·       

Organizational Skills: 

 

Efficiently maintaining sterile environments, managing inventory, and organizing medical records. 

·       

Teamwork: 

 

Collaborating effectively with veterinarians and other clinic staff to provide high-level patient care.
