Clinical Support Manager
Position Summary
The People Manager is responsible for leading and developing the veterinary hospital’s Veterinary Assistants (VAs) and Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) while supporting hospital operations. This role ensures the care team is well-trained, supported, and aligned with the hospital’s standards for patient care and client service, while also maintaining efficient inventory management and cost control for all medical and operational supplies.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all Veterinary Assistants and Patient Care Assistants.
- Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage across shifts and departments.
- Conduct regular coaching sessions, performance reviews, and team meetings.
- Foster a positive work culture emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and compassionate care.
Patient Care & Workflow Oversight
- Ensure VAs and PCAs follow hospital protocols for patient handling, restraint, cleaning, and assisting with procedures.
- Work closely with veterinarians and technicians to coordinate patient flow and maintain timely care.
- Monitor quality of patient care and address performance or procedural issues promptly.
Training & Development
- Develop and oversee onboarding programs for new VAs and PCAs
- Provide ongoing skills training, cross-training, and continuing education opportunities.
- Keep staff informed of changes in hospital policies, equipment, and procedures.
Communication & Collaboration
- Serve as the liaison between the care team, technicians, veterinarians, and hospital leadership.
- Ensure smooth communication regarding patient needs, workload distribution, and operational updates.
- Collaborate with leadership on budget planning related to staffing and supplies.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician. Leadership or supervisory responsibility preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of veterinary assistant and patient care assistant workflows, including patient handling, restraint, sanitation, and procedural support.
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership, coaching, and performance management.
- Proven ability to develop and implement training programs.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting while maintaining a high standard of patient care and client service.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software and basic operational reporting preferred.

Required Schedule
- - Four 10-hour days, Wednesday through Saturday, 7am – 5pm (hours may vary)
