Job Description

Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency is offering a private practice emergency and critical care specialty internship which will commence June 21, 2025. We can be flexible in terms of scheduling with this position, offering either a 6-month and 1-year program option. Furthermore, we are open to off-cycle applications whose start date would not be June.


This specialty internship is designed for off-cycle applicants who are interested in a focused internship prior to a yearlong rotating internship, applicants who are interested in pursuing emergency medicine, or applicants who have completed a rotating internship and are interested in more focused critical care medicine with the intention of pursuing a critical care residency following this internship. While the focus will be emergency and critical care with the interns having primary case management under the direct mentorship of our criticalists and experienced emergency clinicians, our multi-specialty hospital offers exposure to and collaboration with internal medicine, nephrology/urology (including extracorporeal therapy), surgery, neurology, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, oncology (medical, surgical, and radiation), anesthesia, and dentistry. Interns will develop into confident diagnosticians and strengthen their verbal/written communication skills as well as leadership and confidence as a clinician.


We have (1) specialty internship position available for a qualified individual; the intern must have a license to practice veterinary medicine in Colorado. Attainment of licenses at time of internship acceptance is acceptable.


Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $55,000 for 12 months, $27,500 for 6 months

Eligible for medical benefits (health, vision, dental, etc.)

401K participation with company match when eligible

PLIT insurance, professional licensing, and professional dues

Paid continuing education for 12 months, none for 6 months

10 days PTO for 12 months, 5 days for 6 months


We are located in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Our hospital is on the north end of town in a beautiful, new 54,000 square foot facility that is currently undergoing an expansion! We are close to both Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Boulder is the quintessential community for the outdoor enthusiast. Even though you’ll be working hard, we make sure you’ll find some time to enjoy the outdoors. Snow skiing/boarding, hiking 14ers, SUPs/kayaking, mountain biking, camping and rock climbing are just a few of the activities at your fingertips.
