Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital

Job Description

The internship program at WECH is designed to provide graduate veterinarians knowledge and experience that will prepare them for clinical practice or a residency program. The Wisconsin Equine Clinic offers hospital (including surgery, internal medicine, reproductive and emergency medicine) and ambulatory experiences with special emphasis on providing each intern with mentors in every area of veterinary medicine. The hospital is staffed with technicians 24/7.

Interns rotate between hospital and ambulatory services. Interns are responsible for management of in- hospital cases, anesthesia for emergency cases, participation in ambulatory cases and emergency duty. The interns assume increasing case management, client communication, and solo ambulatory responsibilities throughout the year. After the initial training period, interns are encouraged to "customize" their experiences to achieve their long-term career goals.

In addition to a competitive intern salary, benefits include contribution towards loan repayment, liability coverage, association dues and licensing fees, a contribution towards a health insurance plan, and a stipend to attend CE opportunities. Interns will also share regular scheduled time-off throughout the year.

We strongly encourage prospective interns to do an externship at our clinic to determine if it would be a good fit for both parties. However, an externship is not required. We are happy to conduct a phone or virtual interview in lieu of an in-person visit.

Applicants must graduate from an AVMA accredited program, acquire a valid Wisconsin veterinary license, and have a valid driver's license.
