Practice Manager Position

Tacoma Equine Hospital - a trusted, long-established, and highly regarded equine practice in the beautiful Pacific Northwest - is seeking an experienced Practice Manager. As Practice Manager, you will serve as a key member of the leadership team, working in close collaboration with our Managing Veterinarian and support staff to ensure smooth operations, exceptional client service, and a thriving team culture. This role is ideal for a driven, organized, and team oriented leader who thrives in a fast paced equine environment and is passionate about supporting both people and patients.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Planning

Partner with the Managing Veterinarian to set and achieve short  and long term strategic goals
Foster a supportive, collaborative team culture focused on high quality patient care and exceptional service
Lead staff meetings, team building initiatives, and internal communications
Champion change and promote best practices across all areas of hospital operations
 
Operations Management

Oversee day to day administrative operations, ensuring seamless clinic and ambulatory workflows
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEA, and other regulatory standards
Maintain hospital scheduling and optimize labor utilization
Supervise fleet maintenance, facility upkeep, and IT needs


 
Team & HR Management

Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of support staff
Manage performance processes, including coaching, evaluations, and disciplinary actions
Maintain accurate licensure, CE records, and credentialing documentation for veterinarians and staff
 
Client Service & Community Engagement

Ensure exceptional client service, resolving concerns with professionalism and empathy
Implement strategies to strengthen client relationships and grow local referrals
Support educational outreach, marketing initiatives, and community engagement through Tacoma Equine’s digital platforms and local events
 
Financial Management

Manage accounts receivable/payable, bank deposits, and invoice audits
Oversee payroll processing and DVM production calculations
Monitor inventory, purchasing, and facility expenses
Collaborate on budgeting and forecasting to support sustainable clinic growth
 
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or a related field (preferred)
3–5 years of experience in a veterinary, medical, or equine practice leadership role
Strong knowledge of HR best practices, financial reporting, and inventory control
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and practice management software (EzyVet experience a plus)
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Equine industry experience or horse background strongly preferred
