Allandale Veterinary Hospital is a growing, 14-doctor practice with a strong reputation in Barrie and beyond—many of our clients travel significant distances to see us. Our team is passionate about what we do, and we’re looking for an Exam Room Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same—and yes, there are always animals to cuddle.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare exam rooms before appointments (cleaning, stocking, organizing)
  • Greet clients and patients in a friendly, welcoming manner
  • Escort clients and pets into exam rooms and record arrival/check-in times
  • Weigh patients and update records in Cornerstone
  • Take temperature, review medical history, and document in medical records
  • Assist veterinarians during appointments by entering notes and updating invoices
  • Record detailed notes of doctor-client discussions and patient findings
  • Support communication between the front desk and medical team
  • Take patient vitals (TPR) and gather history when needed
  • Prepare medications, vaccines, and lab requisitions
  • Admit and track patients using hospital census/whiteboard
  • Update clients on patient progress and discharge timing
  • Handle patient discharges and ensure belongings are returned
  • Complete follow-up calls after visits
  • Assist in the treatment area as needed
  • Support additional administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Completion of post-secondary education
  • 1–2 years experience in a veterinary or similar role preferred (willing to train the right candidate)
  • Comfortable using technology (Microsoft Office, Outlook, basic computer systems)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm and compassionate with both clients and patients
  • Team-oriented with a positive, professional attitude
  • Strong organization and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends

Preferred:

  • Experience with Cornerstone software
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Experience working with animals in a clinical or shelter environment
