Job Description

Ridgetop Animal Hospital is a 6-doctor, AAHA-accredited practice made up of a compassionate and dedicated team of veterinary professionals committed to providing exceptional care to the pets and families in our community. We are currently seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced, collaborative team.

This position is ideal for someone who has already developed strong technical and animal handling skills, thrives in a busy environment, and values teamwork, communication, and high-quality medicine.


Position Overview

The Veterinary Assistant will play an essential role in supporting our doctors and licensed technicians with patient care, diagnostics, and surgical procedures. This role requires a proactive individual who can anticipate the needs of the medical team, multitask efficiently, and maintain composure in a dynamic clinical setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, procedures, and surgeries.

  • Safely handle, restrain, and care for patients of all temperaments and sizes.

  • Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites for daily use.

  • Perform lab sample collection, in-house testing, and prepare reference lab submissions.

  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.

  • Provide attentive monitoring for hospitalized and post-operative patients.

  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient care and follow-up instructions.

  • Maintain hospital cleanliness, organization, and compliance with AAHA standards.

  • Support Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant required (2+ years strongly preferred).

  • Proficiency in restraint, venipuncture, sample handling, and basic lab testing.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • Compassionate, dependable, and proactive attitude.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
