Job description:

Pima North Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced seasonal Kennel Assistant to join our team for the holiday season! Position will run from October through January, with the potential to continue based on business needs.

Pima North Animal Hospital is a veterinary hospital providing medical, surgical and dental care as well as grooming and boarding for cats and dogs. We proudly achieved and have maintained AAHA Accreditation and Feline Friendly status.

Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Job Type:

Job Summary:

The ideal Kennel Assistant is outgoing, enthusiastic, compassionate and not afraid to get dirty. You will use your communication skills, problem solving skills and be a passionate pet care attendant. The Kennel Assistant is responsible for the daily care and monitoring of boarding pets and hospital patients and must be compassionate and enjoy working closely with pets. You will be responsible for excellent guest care, empathy, and maintaining kennel cleanliness. You will need to be professional, trustworthy, punctual, and love smiling.

This position can be full-time or part-time; scheduled days and hours may vary based on hospital need. Weekend work is on a rotational basis. Holiday work is required and eligible for time and a half pay. This position requires standing for long periods of time and some heavy lifting may be involved.

Kennel Assistant duties include, but are not limited to:

          Walks, feeds, and provides water for hospital patients and boarders

          Conducts play times and provides additional services to pet guests (including baths & nail trims)

          Reads and accurately interprets guest/patient charts for any special situations

          Monitors patients’ behaviors and notes potentially aggressive behaviors

          Under the supervision of a Veterinary Technician, provides boarders’ medications and records treatments accurately in the charts

          Demonstrates and utilizes proper restraining techniques when needed

          Escalates any patient health concerns to a Veterinary Technician or Veterinarian in a timely manner

          On the day of discharge, gathers all of the pet’s personal belongings for the client

          Provides boarding clients with a report card of their pets’ stay

          Cleans kennels and runs daily, and as needed

          Washes, dries, and stores towels and boarding facility bedding

          Ensures the kennel facility is clean and tidy, maintaining a professional appearance at all times

          Maintains a professional appearance and calm demeanor with all clients and team members

The Kennel Assistant reports to the Hospital Manager.

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift (4-day work week) or
  • 8 hour shift (5-day work week)
  • Weekends on a rotational basis
  • Holidays
  • No overnight shifts! Shift times are between 6:30am and 6:00pm.

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Prior kennel experience not required but is a plus

Experience:

  • Knowledge of animal care and handling
  • Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a busy environment

·         Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, E-mail, and AVImark experience preferred)
