Job Summary

The Kennel Attendant is responsible for the care and monitoring of daycare pets and boarding guests during each shift. For this reason, the Kennel Attendant must be compassionate and enjoy working closely with all guests (including dogs, cats, and small exotics).

 

This position is offered as full-time or part-time, regular work at the discretion of management; scheduled days and hours may vary during the week, weekends, and holidays. Overtime is possible, but not encouraged. This position requires standing for long periods and some heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be involved.

 

The Kennel Attendant reports to the Practice Manager and Kennel Manager.

Starting pay range for this position is $12-$14 per hour, based on experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

 

General Tasks:

•          Follows time clock procedures for clocking in and out at the start and end of the shift.

•          Reports to work on time for each shift.

•          Ensures the kennel facility is clean and tidy; always maintains a professional appearance.

•          Provides safe and healthy environment for boarders and daycare guests.

•          Performs nightly closeout duties at times.

Client Service:

•          Maintains a professional appearance and calm demeanor with all clients and team members.

•          Answers client questions clearly and accurately.

•          Answers phone calls and emails, creates reservations, and processes payments.

Guest Care:

•          Walks, feeds, and provides water for daycare guests and boarders.

•          Cleans guest’s kennels and runs daily and as needed.

•          Washes, dries, and stores towels and boarding facility bedding.

•          Demonstrates and utilizes proper restraining techniques.

•          Reads and accurately interprets the food and medication charts for any special situations.

•          Monitors guests’ behaviors and notes potentially aggressive behaviors; requests assistance when needed.

•          Provides boarders’ and daycare guests’ medications and records accurately in the charts.

•          Escalates any guests’ health concerns to the management team or hospital veterinarians.

•          Performs basic grooming tasks for qualified guests.

•          On the day of discharge, gathers all the pet’s personal belongings for the client.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

•          Basic animal handling skills

•          Telephone and email etiquette

•          English language

Skills:

•          Client service and interpersonal skills

•          Pet restraint techniques

•          Basic pet grooming skills

•          Read and interpret medication and food charts

•          Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, E-mail, boarding software, and AVImark experience preferred)

Abilities:

•          Professional and courteous

•          Flexibility

•          Willingness to learn

•          Attention to detail

•          Adherence to procedures and protocols

•          Works well in team environment

•          Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision

Qualifications:

Education/ Experience

          High school degree

          Prior kennel experience is preferred but not required
