Job Description

Pacific Northwest Pet ER & Specialty Center is a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital located in Vancouver, WA, just outside Portland, OR.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Fill out histories for upcoming appointments – ensure we have appropriate records/imaging/diagnostic reports available 

  • Check in appointments and obtain detailed history from owners in a timely manner 

  • Obtain vitals on patient and relay pertinent information to surgeon 

  • Take notes for surgeon during physical exam and fill out medical record as warranted by surgeon 

  • Obtain diagnostic quality radiographic images 

  • Technical skills including, but not limited to, IV catheter placement, urinary catheter placement, venipuncture, and safe restraint 

  • Handle and administer controlled substances 

  • Safely monitor patients while under sedation 

  • Ability to safely perform anesthesia from induction to recovery 

  • Perform diagnostic procedures recommended by surgeon during appointment 

  • Fill any medications needed for the patient 

  • Gather discharges and medications for patients going home from previous day surgeries as well as coordinating appropriate discharge times with owner 

  • Assist surgeon with morning exams on inpatients 

  • Complete memos and emails/client communications in a timely manner 

  • Restock exam room/appt room each day 

  •  Communicate with doctors and technicians regarding patient status or concerns. 

  • Proficient use of our veterinary computer software systems including, but not limited to Ezyvet, Smartflow, and Keystone. 

  • Cross train in surgical scrubbing to fill in as needed 

  • Cross train in surgical anesthesia to fill in as needed 

  • Surgical employees are required to participate in the surgical on-call rotation which includes holidays 

  • All employees may be asked to work rotating holiday shifts in the emergency and critical care department. 

  • Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards. 

  • Performs other job duties as assigned 

COMPENSATION:

This position has an initial hiring range of $28.00 to $35.00 per hour based on skillset and experience. We offer a competitive shift differential for team members working the hours of 6pm to 6am at $4.00 per hour on top of base pay along with competitive benefits, including continuing education, staff pet discounts, incentives for professional development, health insurance, and 401k. We also offer a weekend differential that is an additional $2/hr for any work between 12 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

  • Completion of an AVMA-Accredited Veterinary Technician Program preferred. 

  • Current Washington LVT license or out-of-state license that can be transferred to the State of Washington. 
  • Must be able to safely work in the presence of MRI, with appropriate training.
  • 6 months of veterinary experience required. Surgery preferred. 

  • Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic and a positive attitude. 

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations. 

  • Ability to act as a team player. 
  • Must be flexible with the schedule as department needs may vary.
