Credentialed or Experienced Veterinary Technician

We are seeking a full time licensed veterinary technician or an advanced veterinary assistant.

Job Responsibilities:

 

·         Assists the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing restraint as needed in order to work safely and effectively.

·         Accurately prepares and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian.

·         Successfully perform treatment plan skills such as SQ, IV fluid set up and administration, medication administration, ear cleaning, wound treatment, anal gland expression, nail trim.

·         Prepares animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.

·         Performs routine dental prophylaxis, and obtains accurate dental radiographs under the direction of the veterinarian.

·         Assists doctor with all surgical procedures: including accurately administers and monitors anesthesia under the direction of the veterinarian.

·         Obtains radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and safety techniques.

·         Cares for and monitors the condition of animals recovering from surgery.

·         Successfully collects, prepares, and labels samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination, including but not limited to blood, urine, and fecal samples.

·         Successfully performs laboratory tests on blood, urine, feces, and additional cytologies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.

·         Correctly obtain patient vitals, communicate values to veterinarian and triage patients appropriately.

·         Administers emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures.

·         Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.

·         Provides the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed.

·         Accurately fills prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.

·         Maintains clean examination rooms and treatment areas.

·         Works collaboratively with veterinarians to ensure that all animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently.

·         Effectively place IV catheter, and jugular, cephalic, and saphenous venipuncture. 

·         Provide maintenance care for hospitalized patients.

·         In depth client communication skills pertaining to veterinary medicine.

·         Accurate controlled substance handling, monitoring, and reporting.

·         Monitor patient status and bring attention to doctor for unusual actions or eliminations.

·         Successfully administer injections SQ, IM, and IV per instructed by veterinarian.

·         Assist with safe/proper restraint, including utilizing fear free techniques.

·         Cleaning and sanitizing all treatment areas, exam rooms, and reception areas.

·         Restocking all hospital supplies in treatment areas and exam rooms.

·         Walking, feeding, and medicating any boarding or hospitalized patients in the facility.

·         Ensure all veterinarian prescribed treatments and medications are completed and charged to the client accurately.

Skills and Basic Qualifications

·         Certification as a Veterinary Technician or experience as advanced veterinary assistant.

·         Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.

·         Ability to effectively handle and control aggressive animals.

·         Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary clinic environment, including the use of euthanasia.

·         Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.

·         Commitment to ongoing educational development and growth.

·         Must have active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment and decision making skills.
