Job Summary

A Veterinary Technician plays a key role in the care of our patients and the support of our veterinary team. They provide compassionate, high-quality medical assistance to our doctors, help ensure smooth hospital operations, and serve as advocates for the health and wellbeing of pets. Veterinary Technicians are skilled, detail-oriented, and passionate about both animals and client education. They work efficiently and accurately, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor while juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures

·         Perform diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, urine collection, and fecal testing

·         Place and maintain IV catheters and administer medications as prescribed

·         Monitor anesthesia and post-operative recovery with attention to patient safety and comfort

·         Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including feeding, cleaning, and observation

·         Accurately document patient medical records and treatment plans in the hospital computer system

·         Communicate with clients regarding treatment recommendations, home care instructions, and preventive health care

·         Prepare and maintain surgical and exam areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper equipment function

·         Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately

·         Maintain inventory and stock supplies as needed

·         Uphold safety and infection control protocols at all times

·         Support a positive hospital culture through teamwork, empathy, and respect toward clients, patients, and colleagues

Qualifications

·         Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program or equivalent experience

·         Current state Veterinary Technician license (or ability to obtain) preferred

·         Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and pharmacology

·         Ability to work flexible schedules, including some weekends and holidays

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to educate and build rapport with clients

·         Capable of handling stressful or emotionally charged situations calmly and professionally

·         Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently

Skills

·         Proficient in veterinary practice management software and basic computer applications

·         Skilled in animal restraint and patient handling

·         Knowledge of standard veterinary equipment use and maintenance

·         Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to client service

·         Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment
