Animal Emergency & Critical Care is now known as North Alabama Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital! We have moved our Huntsville, AL team into a brand-new hospital in Madison, AL and we’re seeking an energetic, motivated, and experienced Medical Director!

We are a rapidly growing, 24-hour, AAHA-accredited hospital, consisting of 4 ER DVMs and a support team of 22 with 5 Licensed Veterinary Technicians. Because of our exceptional reputation with our referring veterinarians and the booming economy in Alabama, we are expanding our services in a brand-new, 11,000 sqft hospital! Our state-of-the-art hospital will bring together a team of experienced emergency veterinarians to provide advanced medical care with the latest equipment on the market.

In partnership with the Hospital Manager and EVH Field Leadership, Medical Leadership and Support Teams, the Medical Director is responsible for:

·         Advancing Medical Care

·         Oversees associate veterinarians and supports them in oversight of surgical and medical cases, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, timely completion of medical records, and outstanding client communication and education.

·         Answers client and referring doctor questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures and provides thorough medical review as needed.

·         Provides oversight and direction of medical standards, quality of care, and inventory.

·         Establishes medical protocols.

·         Leading Clinical Staff and Practice

·         Leads the recruiting and interviewing process for doctors, and when appropriate, administrative team members.

·         Partners with doctors to set goals and monitors doctors’ performance and production.

·         Ensures appropriate onboarding of all new staff doctors and relief veterinarians.

·         Develops and implements veterinarian ER mentorship program.

·         Financial Responsibilities

·         Assists in the preparation of an annual planning strategy, operating budget, and capital budget.

·         Monitors key financial reports.

·         Minimizes waste and controls costs relating to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories.

·         Growing the Practice

·         Drives patient visits and encourages community involvement to market the practice (lunch and learns, career days, etc.)

·         Embraces changes and supports innovative operational programs within the hospital.

·         Seeks out opportunities for service line expansion that may improve practice growth.


This role is typically approximately 75% clinical and 25% administrative.
