Position Summary:

The ER Medical Director at Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital plays a pivotal leadership role within the Emergency Department, responsible for upholding the highest standards of patient care, supporting clinical team development, and contributing to operational efficiency and medical excellence. This role involves close collaboration with hospital leadership and the joint venture partners to ensure the delivery of progressive, gold-standard care while fostering a culture of mentorship, accountability, and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership & Medical Oversight:

  • Maintain and enforce the gold-standard of patient care, clinical protocols, and client service.

  • Actively review ER doctor SOAP notes, surgical techniques, diagnostic decisions, treatment plans, and client communication to ensure quality and consistency.

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to support ongoing professional development of ER doctors.

Departmental Collaboration:

  • Attend biweekly ER department manager meetings and contribute to strategic discussions.

  • Collaborate with the ER Director and leadership team to implement new protocols and department initiatives.

Medical Advancement & Protocol Development:

  • Research current best practices and emerging trends in veterinary emergency medicine.

  • Present clinical updates and recommendations to the General Manager and Managing Veterinarian; upon alignment, coordinate with the ER Director to implement updates into practice.

  • Assist in the development, review, and deployment of medical protocols that improve ER flow and treatment outcomes.

Mentorship & Team Development:

  • Support the onboarding and mentorship of new ER doctors, providing guidance and feedback with direction from General Manager, Managing Veterinarian, and Joint Venture Partners.

  • Offer input and support in conducting annual performance evaluations for ER doctors.

Client Communication & Support

  • Assist in resolving client concerns and complaints related to medical care, in collaboration with General Manager and Managing Veterinarian as needed.


Scheduling & Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinate and manage the ER DVM holiday schedule to ensure adequate and fair coverage.


Qualifications:

  • Active veterinary license in good standing

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in emergency veterinary medicine

  • Prior leadership or management experience preferred

  • Strong communication, mentorship, and organizational skills

  • Commitment to continuing education and evidence-based medicine
