Medical Director

Avets Specialty & Emergency Trauma Center

Job Description

Lead with Heart at Avets – Medical Director Opportunity

At Avets Specialty and Emergency Trauma Center, leadership is rooted in compassion, connection, and a shared commitment to excellence. We’re looking for a Veterinary Specialist to step into the role of Medical Director—a dynamic, 50% clinical and 50% administrative position designed for someone ready to make a meaningful impact on both patient care and hospital culture.

You’ll partner closely with our Hospital Administrator to guide a talented team of 18 veterinarians and 2 ECC VTS staff trainers—fostering growth, mentorship, and collaboration at every level. This role comes with a management stipend and lifestyle bonuses that reflect our belief in supporting the whole person behind the professional.

Who We Are

Avets exists to provide state-of-the-art medicine and compassionate care for pets—and for the people who love them. That mission is more than words; it’s the foundation of our culture and our commitment to one another.

Our team lives by a set of core values that define how we work together, care for patients, and serve our community:
  • Open, timely communication with primary care veterinarians and pet owners
  • Empathy in every interaction—treating pets and people as we would our own
  • A relentless pursuit of knowledge, shared freely among our team
  • Personal responsibility in every detail, grounded in mutual respect
  • Pride in providing a clean, comfortable, and well-equipped hospital
We’re proud of the inclusive, team-first environment we’ve built—one that values curiosity, transparency, and heart. We’re growing, we’re evolving, and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to help shape what comes next.

Why Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh has undergone a bold transformation—emerging as a national leader in medicine, education, and technology. As Business Insider puts it, “Pittsburgh has reinvented itself as a medical, educational, and, more recently, growing tech hub.” That evolution has landed the city at the top of many best-of lists:
  • WalletHub: #3 Best City in America to Live
  • Money Magazine: Top City in the Northeast
  • Glassdoor: Top City for Job-Seekers
  • SmartAsset: #2 Best City for College Graduates
  • CNBC: #2 Best City for Millennials
And it’s not just about professional opportunity—Pittsburgh is affordable, too. Salaries are competitive, and with a cost of living that’s 11% lower than the national average, your paycheck goes further.

Love good food? You’re in the right place. Pittsburgh’s culinary scene is a local obsession and a national standout. As VisitPittsburgh.com puts it:
“The city's award-winning chefs, new restaurant concepts and suppliers have moved the restaurant scene forward with fresh ingredients from locally grown, locally raised goods. In Pittsburgh, farm-to-table is not just a saying, it's a way of life.”

If you’re looking to lead with heart, grow a team, and live in a city full of opportunity and character—let’s talk.
