Key Responsibilities

·         Bathe, shampoo, condition, and dry pets of various types and coat textures

·         Groom and style coats through trimming, shearing, scissoring, hand‑stripping, or cording based on breed standards or owner requests

·         Detangle, de-mat, and brush coats skillfully

·         Trim nails, clean ears and eyes, and express anal glands as needed

·         Conduct basic health checks—look for ticks, fleas, skin irritations, infections, lumps or other abnormalities—and inform owners accordingly

·         Manage anxious or reactive pets with calm, gentle handling and proper restraint techniques

·         Maintain grooming areas and tools—clean, sanitize, and organize workstations before and after appointments

·         Deliver exceptional customer service—consult with pet owners, explain styles, manage expectations, and offer home-care advice or product suggestions

·         Check clients in and out, collect payments, and confirm appointment details

Qualifications & Skills

·         High school diploma or GED preferred

·         Prior experience as a pet or dog groomer (e.g., salon, shelter, mobile grooming), or completion of a hands‑on certification program

·         Comfortable handling both dogs and cats—including large breeds (50+ lb)

·         Proficiency with grooming tools: clippers, blades, shears, de-shedding tools, nail grinders, brushes, stripping knives, etc.

·         Strong attention to detail, patience, and empathy in working with animals

·         Excellent customer communication skills and the ability to interpret style instructions

·         Physical endurance—able to stand for long periods and lift or move pets weighing 50–60 lb or more

·         Ability to perform 7 or more full grooms per day with consistency and care

·         Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to stay on schedule

·         Willingness to learn and use new software systems for scheduling, invoicing, and client records
