Job Description

The base salary range for this full-time position is $30.00 - $36.00. Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

MONDAY-FRIDAY ONLY, NO WEEKENDS

 

Job Description: Under direct supervision of the MDVM, Lead tech and management, cares for the animals under the care of the Veterinary Services Department, assists with treatment or surgery of animals and maintains Veterinary Services facility and equipment. The veterinary technician is the veterinarian’s primary medical support and plays a vital role in the practice. Technicians must value the quality of care we provide and uphold a positive and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

-Triaging patients and taking their vitals, and acquiring patient history and other information from clients.

-Assisting with diagnostic procedures.

-Discussing treatment plans and estimates, and payment options with clients.

- Prepping patients, Inserting IV catheters, administering medications, performing blood draws, administering injections, monitoring anesthesia and administrating fluid therapy.

- Logging and keeping track of inventory specifically with controlled substances.

-Processing specimens in the in-house laboratory and submitting specimens to outside laboratories.

-Calculating medication dosages, and providing dosage instructions for clients.

-Entering patients' services and charges into the computer database and keeping accurate patient records.

-Explaining patient instructions to clients and sharing educational materials.

Veterinary Technician Skills & Competencies

Veterinarian technicians must have additional "soft skills" in addition to education and experience requirements. These include:

Communication skills: Vet techs must communicate with doctors, clients and other staff clearly. They must also communicate kindly and be able to explain prognoses with owners of ill or injured pets.

Problem-solving skills: Vet techs need to be able to consider all of the available information and draw valid conclusions about an animal's condition.

Technicians must be detail oriented and make good decisions, respond quickly and calmly to crises and maintain high standards of patient care.
