Position Overview:

The Senior Counsel, Consumer, will serve as a key legal advisor supporting NVA GP’s consumer-facing strategies. This role involves providing expert guidance on intellectual property (IP) matters, data privacy, marketing, technology, and home delivery initiatives. The Senior Counsel will proactively identify legal risks and opportunities, deliver practical business-focused solutions, and contribute to the overall success of NVA’s revenue-driving consumer operations.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive legal guidance on complex consumer-facing initiatives, including product launches, marketing campaigns, and strategic partnerships, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Lead legal support for consumer-facing aspects of GP’s strategy such as data privacy, intellectual property, marketing, technology, home delivery, and related areas critical to GP’s growth and revenue.
  • Bring experience in a multi-site branded consumer retail environment.
  • Navigate data privacy laws, including privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR), and marketing laws (e.g., CAN-SPAM, Lanham Act).
  • Manage USPTO filings, oversee an IP portfolio, develop trademark strategy, and address patent and copyright issues as needed.
  • Provide support for technology products and tools, such as company websites, mobile applications, PIMS systems, and AI tools.
  • Collaborate with a wide variety of internal clients and serve as the Legal representative on cross-functional project teams.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
  • Minimum of 7+ years' experience practicing law, with a strong focus on intellectual property, data privacy, and consumer-facing legal matters.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IP portfolio management, trademark strategy, and USPTO filings.
  • Proven ability to advise on data privacy laws, including CCPA, GDPR, and marketing laws such as CAN-SPAM and the Lanham Act.
  • Experience supporting technology products, including websites, mobile apps, and AI tools.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable solutions for cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills, with experience working in multi-site branded consumer retail environments.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $170,000-$200,000 with opportunity for an annual incentive bonus. Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Company offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more depending on location.
