Veterinarian | Advanced Surgery | Exceptional Support Staff

Hunter Animal Hospital

Job Description

Make a meaningful impact — serving a diverse community that values your care.

At Hunter Animal Hospital, we believe in purposeful medicine, supportive teamwork, and the power of community. Our bright, airy clinic welcomes you with warmth the moment you walk in — and stays that way because our team, affectionately led by our “work mom” hospital manager, genuinely cares about each other and the people we serve.

Led by Dr. Mike Van Zomeren, the founder and Medical Director, our fast-growing, four-doctor practice is deeply connected to a culturally rich and underserved part of Salt Lake City. We’re looking for a veterinarian who wants to help us continue expanding our footprint and making a difference in a community that truly appreciates meaningful, local care.

The Opportunity
We’re hiring a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join our collaborative and upbeat team. You’ll play a key role in expanding a large and diverse practice — including being the lead doctor during your shifts — while enjoying:

  • A supportive, family-style culture, thanks to our exceptional hospital manager (known to some as “Mom” for good reason)

  • A spacious but welcoming clinic where you never feel lost in the crowd

  • A high-performing team that celebrates wins together — weekly shout-outs, team lunches, and festive gatherings

  • Cutting-edge medicine, including orthopedic and soft-tissue surgeries in our only West Valley practice offering these specialties

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Wants to make a difference in a culturally diverse, appreciative community

  • Thrives in a collaborative, growth-oriented practice

  • Craves medical autonomy and responsibility

  • Enjoys a happy, connected workplace with genuine laughter and teamwork

Our Clinic & Culture

  • Bright, airy, and roomy clinic with intuitive workflow

  • Full in-house Heska lab, digital radiography, and ultrasound

  • ScribeNote AI for SOAP charting—so you spend more time with pets, less on records

  • Expertise in soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries, supported by high-caliber staff

  • A close-knit, cheerful team that celebrates both wins and birthdays

  • Hospital manager who supports you both professionally and personally

The Lifestyle
West Valley is the most culturally diverse side of Salt Lake City — full of vibrancy, flavor, and community pride. You’ll be part of a neighborhood that values connection and authentic care.

  • Experience a culturally rich community that deeply values and appreciates high-quality veterinary care

  • Short drive from SLC’s best hiking, skiing, and city life

  • Affordable and fast-growing community with access to major highways, public transit, and green spaces

What You’ll Get

  • Base salary of $110,000–$120,000 DOE for new grads + monthly production bonus

  • Starting base salary of $120,000–$140,000 DOE for experienced veterinarians + monthly production bonus

  • 4-day workweek with regular 3-day weekends

  • Generous time off: 3 weeks PTO + 4 days for CE each year

  • Health insurance and free mental-health counseling via Talkspace

  • Wellness benefits: workshops, retreats, and more

  • Student loan assistance and 401(k) with match

  • NVA perks: pet-care, childcare, fitness, and more

  • Professional coverage: malpractice, licensing, dues, and DEA

  • Career growth: mentorship from Dr. Van Zomeren and Dr. Amy Kafer; leadership tracks; opportunity for joint venture down the road

  • $5,000 CE reimbursement, annual development events, and access to NVA’s training facility
