Starch Pet Hospital, located in Des Moines, Iowa, and University West Pet Clinic, located in Clive, Iowa, are seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join our team.

Overview:

We are seeking an associate veterinarian to join our two hospital, 9 doctor team. This position will offer a competitive base salary plus production, generous benefits package, and a sign-on bonus. We are open to either full or part time candidates, and all levels of experience are welcome!

About the Position:

Associate Veterinarian is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with a Managing Doctor and supporting medical staff. This individual is responsible for providing high quality care to our patients while also developing rapport with their owners. In addition to physical examinations, surgeries, and dentistry, client communication and education are of the up most importance. It’s important that Starch Pet Hospital and University West Veterinarians treat each pet and client like part of the family.

About the Clinics:

Both hospitals are fully staffed with excellent technicians and support staff offering strong communication and collaboration. Our hospitals have longstanding ties in the community, providing high quality medicine and compassionate care to our patients. Both hospitals currently offer 4 exam rooms, dedicated surgery suites, large well equipped treatment areas, grooming area, full in-house lab, digital radiology, ultrasound, and in-house pharmacy. Both locations will undergo renovations in 2025 that will include 4 additional exam rooms, surgical suite expansions, and a dedicated dual dental suite. Responsibilities:

  • Builds rapport with clients by gathering information, listening to, and empathizing with their concerns
  • Performs physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures that deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort 
  • Makes decisions confidently and effectively 
  • Communicates with clients on topics such as pet diagnosis, treatment plans, preventative health care and nutritional needs 
  • Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and makes certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols
  • Works collaboratively with hospital team members
  • Stays current on new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine 
  • Presents positive image of the hospital in the professional community and to the general public 

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or related degree from an accredited university
  • Licensure in the state candidate will be working
  • Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding veterinary code of ethics 
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
