Augusta Valley Animal Hospital, located in Staunton, VA is seeking to hire a Veterinarian to join our practice.

About the area:  Staunton is conveniently located at the intersection of I-81and I-64.  Staunton is the perfect base from which to explore Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The city’s charming downtown is home to a vibrant arts and music scene, a sizzling reputation for local food and dining, and a cool array of independent shops and galleries clustered along the historic main street.  We are also located only 1.5 hours from Virginia Tech.

 

We are looking for someone with the ability to make decisions and communicate clearly and effectively with fellow team members and is committed to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics.

 

We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, fully equipped in-hospital surgery suite, in-house digital x-ray capabilities fully equipped dental suite with digital dental x-ray, therapeutic companion class IV laser,  and a closely supervised hospitalization area.

 

We also have very close relationships with local specialty hospitals for advanced diagnostics, surgery and 24 hour emergency care.

 

We are highly focused on preventative care and dentistry. We also encourage and support the growth and advancement of our DVM’S special veterinary interests.

Qualifications 

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited university. 
  • Licensure in good standing to practice in the state in which applicant is to be employed. 
  • A DVM who is passionate about their work, values the human-animal bond, will strive to uphold our core values
  • Can effectively communicate and collaborate with our existing team to continue to provide the highest standard of care for our clients and patients.

 In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Associate Veterinarian is an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with Managing Doctors and supporting medical staff. This individual advances the quality of medicine in the practice and provides exceptional client service to our clients and patients.

  Job Responsibilities 

  • Develop a rapport with clients and determine their needs and wishes; perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures in a way that will deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort. 
  • Explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems; generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client; educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products.
  • Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient. 
  • Stay up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, attend Continuing Education meetings. 
  • Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service. 
  • Positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.
