Here at the Island City Animal Hospital, we are a close-knit, 2 doctor small animal practice specializing in the care of cats and dogs.  We are committed to providing excellent client communication, and our goal is to ensure pets live their longest, healthiest lives.  We pride ourselves on creating a warm and welcoming environment for our team, clients and furry friends!  Our Veterinary Assistants work independently as well as with the veterinarians and technicians to ensure the highest quality of care is provided. 

We are seeking a full time experienced Veterinary Assistant.  We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates initiative, accountability and is motivated in their work.  They should bring a positive attitude to the workplace, be a team player and encourage the best in fellow team members.  We offer a family-like team environment that fosters growth and supports your career development. 

Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Technicians with patient care and treatment, monitor hospitalized patients, assist with surgeries and ensure animals have clean comfortable habitats during their stay. They also assist with reception. The position requires practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, animal patient care and knowledge of standard procedures. 

 

Full time hours are available, which can range from mornings, evenings and Saturdays.  We offer uniform allowance, and salary is based on experience.

Qualifications:

·       Veterinary Assistant Diploma (preferred)

·       Must be 18 years or older (for being able to assist with radiography)

·       Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. 

·       Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.  Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50 lbs.)  Should be able to lift 50 lbs on own. 

·       Job requires to be walking or standing for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent or squatting position.
