We are searching for our next team member! Ideally we’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant, but we are willing to train a new Veterinary Assistant Graduate for the right fit. Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Technicians with patient care and treatment, monitor hospitalized patients, assist with surgeries, general housekeeping tasks and they ensure animals have clean and comfortable kennels during their stay. They also assist with reception, so experience with Avimark software would be an asset. The position requires practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, animal patient care and knowledge of standard procedures. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills as these are vital for us to care for both our patients and each other.
Thousand Islands Veterinary Services is a quick drive, 20 minutes East of Kingston and 30 minutes West of Brockville, in beautiful Gananoque. We are a companion animal hospital that also sees exotics! We pride ourselves on the quality of our medicine, our relationships with each other and our clients, and how we treat our staff. We’re fully equipped with: in-house laboratory and blood analyzer machines, surgical suite, dental suite, digital X-ray (dental included), ultrasound, and therapeutic laser. We have 3 doctors, but usually have 2 working in clinic at a time. We have weekly team meetings where everyone is heard and has input.
Qualifications:
· Veterinary Assistant Diploma (preferred)
· Must be 18 years or older (for being able to assist with radiography)
· Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50 lbs.) Should be able to lift 50 lbs on your own.
· Job requires to be walking or standing for extended periods of time; frequently working in a bent or squatting position.
