Job Overview
We are a busy 6-doctor general practice animal hospital seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant or Technician to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with veterinarians and veterinary assistants to provide high-quality care for animals. You will be responsible for assisting in various procedures, ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. This position is ideal for individuals who have a passion for animal care and are looking to grow their skills in a supportive veterinary setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, including animal catheterization and dental cleanings.
  • Provide proper restraint techniques to ensure the safety of both animals and staff during treatments.
  • Collect blood, urine, and fecal samples from animals.
  • Prepare and process in-house blood tests or prepare samples to send out to reference labs.
  • Trim nails and express anal glands.
  • Prepare animals for surgery by following aseptic techniques and maintaining sterile environments.
  • Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian and monitor animal recovery post-procedure.
  • Perform routine tasks such as cleaning kennels, feeding animals, and maintaining inventory of supplies.
  • Utilize knowledge of animal physiology to recognize signs of illness or distress in patients.
  • Assist with X-Ray procedures and ensure proper handling of imaging equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs.
  • Communicate effectively with doctors and other team members. 

Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Familiarity with animal physiology and dental terminology to support veterinary procedures.
  • Experience in pet care that enhances interaction with animals.
  • Proficiency in animal handling techniques to ensure safe transport and restraint of pets.
  • Knowledge of veterinary technician responsibilities is a plus but not required.

Pay: $17 - $22 per hour, depending on experience/credentials

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week

Experience:

  • Veterinary assistant: 3+ years required
  • Registered/Credentialed Veterinary Technician: not required but preferred
