Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced fulltime Veterinary Assistant or Technician to join our technical team assisting with patient exam rooms.  The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills, as the role will involve interacting directly with clients, be professional, upbeat, friendly and passionate about animals.  Previous veterinary experience preferred. 

Plaza Del Amo Animal Hospital is a five doctor general practice, primarily seeing dogs and cats.  We also provide a full service grooming department, day and long term boarding with luxury suites.  We’re AAHA accredited ensuring our clients, patients and staff are provided with top of the line medicine and customer service.  At Plaza Del Amo Animal Hospital we take pride in what we do!  If you have a passion for animals and enjoy working with people, we would love to hear from you.

 Qualifications

  •  Have great people and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate calmly, clearly and effectively with both staff and clients
  • Must be reliable, detail-oriented person and compassionate
  • Veterinary Assistant experience 1year preferred, entry level considered
  • Knowledge of veterinary medicine and terminology
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to handle high stress situations
  • Must be willing to work some weekends and flexible shifts
  • Must be 18 years old or older

Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet clients in-person, load clients and patients into exam rooms
  • Experience in animal handling and restraint
  • Run basic laboratory tests
  • Taking diagnostic radiographs
  • Take patient vitals
  • Able to administer vaccines and beginning phlebotomy
  • Providing client education about vaccines, flea prevention, medication and discharge plans
  • Go over wellness plans and provide billing estimates to clients
  • Have a great work ethic, be honest and a team player
  • Detail oriented, multi-tasking abilities and self-starter
  • Handling refill requests and filling prescriptions
  • Assist veterinarians with client visits, estimates, discharges and call backs
  • Provide excellent customer service and help maintain a positive client experience
  • Able to accurately record and maintain patient medical records, including history, diagnostics, treatments and vaccinations in veterinary practice management software
  • Able to work some weekends and all shifts
  • Contribute to a positive, fun and professional work environment
  • Restock supplies
  • Light housekeeping duties keeping all areas clean
  • Able to lift up to 40lbs

Shifts are 8 hours and must be willing to work some Saturdays.                            

We are open Monday - Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-4pm.  The starting wage for this position is $17.27/hr- $22.00hr. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.
