Great Rivers Animal Hospital in Alton, IL is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant with 2+ years of experience to join our compassionate team of pet care professionals. Great Rivers Animal Hospital is a thriving small animal general practice that recently relocated to our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in 2024. Located near St. Louis, we provide comprehensive veterinary services in a modern, well-equipped environment. The Role 

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll be a valued member of our clinical team, supporting our veterinarians and technicians in providing exceptional care to our patients and outstanding service to our clients. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations and procedures 

  • Restrain and handle animals safely during exams and treatments 

  • Clean and maintain treatment areas, kennels, and equipment 

  • Prepare patients for surgery and recovery 

  • Monitor hospitalized patients 

  • Provide compassionate care to all patients 

  • Communicate effectively with clients and team members 

  • Maintain detailed medical records

Qualifications 

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Proven experience in animal handling and restraint techniques 

  • Familiarity with veterinary terminology and basic procedures 

  • Passion for animal care and client education 

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills 

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities 

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment 

  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally
