Job Description

 

Frederick Road Veterinary Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant who can help us continue to provide exceptional patient care and client service for our loyal family of clients.

Competitive candidates will have a minimum of 6 months experience in a veterinary hospital setting along with a bright, personable can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and a focus on teamwork.

Schedule: Full-time schedule is four days a week (M,T,W,F), hours are 7:30am-5pm. Hospital is open Monday-Friday only and offers lunch hour between 12pm-1pm.

Compensation:

 

·        Base hourly rate of $17.00 - $20.00, depending on experience

 

·        Eligible for periodic bonus (where applicable)

Job Description Overview:

·         Assist veterinarians with patient exams and treatment

·         Restrain animals during blood draws and similar procedures utilizing Fear Free-approved techniques

·         Aid in routine diagnostic tests (such as: taking radiographs, running bloodwork, prepping ear cytology)

·         Administer medications and vaccinations under Veterinarian supervision

·         Cross-train in reception 

·         Participate in quarterly hospital inventory counts

·         Exceptional Customer service

·         Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas of hospital

·         Potential for growth to train in dental and surgical procedures

·         Monitor hospitalized pets, aid in caring for animals after surgery

·         Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments/equipment

 

Qualifications:

·         6 months of experience in veterinary hospital setting

·         Must be 18yrs old or older

·         Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and a team player

·         Must become Fear Free Certified within first year of employment

·         Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to work with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain

Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members

·         Ability to meet the physical demands of the job:

o   Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.)

o   Able to lift 35lbs on own

o   Walk or stand for extended periods or time; frequently work in a bent or squatting position
