Job Summary
The Veterinary Assistant plays a vital role in supporting veterinarians and the medical team in delivering exceptional patient care. This role requires compassion, technical skills, and teamwork to meet the daily needs of hospitalized pets while ensuring a safe and supportive environment for clients, pets, and staff. Veterinary Assistants also help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hospital facility.
Job Requirements & Qualifications

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and safely handle dogs weighing up to 130 lbs.
· Skilled in multitasking and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
· Ability to safely restrain and handle aggressive or fearful animals.
· Emotional resilience to work in a veterinary environment, including exposure to euthanasia.
· Strong skills in active listening, critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and sound judgment.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
· Professional, courteous, and respectful toward clients and team members.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide compassionate, high-quality care to all patients.
· Communicate clearly and professionally with veterinarians, colleagues, and clients.
· Assist veterinarians during exams, including safe and effective pet restraint.
· Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
· Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving surgical sites and assisting with IV catheter placement.
· Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery to ensure patient safety.
· Obtain diagnostic radiographs using proper positioning and safety techniques.
· Collect, prepare, and label laboratory samples for testing.
· Fill prescriptions accurately, including measuring and labeling medications.
· Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment.
· Keep exam rooms and treatment areas clean, stocked, and organized.
· Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth hospital operations.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
