Veterinary Assistant – Lee’s Summit Animal Hospital

In this role, you will provide exceptional care for our animal patients, assist veterinarians with various procedures, and contribute to a supportive and high-quality veterinary practice.

At our thriving, 6-doctor practice, we care for a wide range of animals—from beloved dogs and cats to horses, goats, monkeys, and even bearded dragons. We offer a broad spectrum of veterinary services, including preventive care, emergency treatments, and surgeries, ensuring that no day is ever the same.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care: Provide hands-on care for animals, including administering medications, performing routine check-ups, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Clinical Assistance: Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostic procedures (e.g., radiographs, blood draws), and surgical procedures.
  • Client Communication: Educate pet owners about their pets' health, treatment plans, and preventive care. Address client questions and concerns with empathy and clarity.
  • Medical Records: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each patient, including treatment plans, observations, and progress notes.
  • Laboratory Work: Perform and interpret laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, fecals, and ear swabs.
  • Pharmacy Duties: Prepare and dispense medications, ensuring proper labeling and dosage. Monitor medication administration and report any adverse reactions.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all veterinary equipment is properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained in good working condition.
  • Facility Upkeep: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and sanitation protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician/Assistant is preferred but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in veterinary clinical skills and procedures.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medical record-keeping and patient care.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Competency in using veterinary software (Avimark) and basic computer applications.
    • Physical capability to handle the demands of the job, including lifting animals and standing for extended periods.
