Veterinary Extern - Equine

Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital

Job Description

An externship experience at an NVA Equine hospital will give students the opportunity to gain great practical experience in an independent equine practice and understand the daily operations of an equine hospital.

The Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital (WECH) externship is designed to provide practical and hands-on private practice veterinary experience to all veterinary students in a supportive environment. The externs gain exposure in equine internal medicine, surgery, imaging, sports medicine and reproduction with our hospitalized cases. Our field veterinarians also offer additional services in emergency medicine, wellness, sports medicine, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, regenerative therapies and alternative medicine. The guidance of multiple veterinarians and a large support staff enables the student to be completely involved in daily operations. Students will leave WECH with a solid understanding of private equine practice and knowledge of future careers in equine veterinary medicine. Externs are invited to apply for a year-long internship program upon graduation from veterinary school. On-Site housing is provided and allows students to be involved in cases throughout the duration of their visit. The clinic is located on 26 acres midway between Milwaukee and Madison and 90 miles north of Chicago.

Externships at Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital are designed for clinical year veterinary students.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
