Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Adobe Animal Hospital - South Bay

Job Description

Adobe Animal Hospital is proud to offer 2 week clinical rotations to third
and fourth year veterinary students. Students work 5 days a week partnered with a staff veterinarian. Students may see preventative care appointments and emergencies as well as rotating through our surgery and dental departments. We do treat exotic species, primarily small mammals. We do our best to pair students with doctors who share their areas of interest. We will fill out evaluation forms provided by accredited veterinary schools so that students can receive academic credit for their time at Adobe. We most frequently host students from UC Davis but have worked with students from a variety of veterinary schools.

We are not able to accommodate any additional Externs in 2023. We are accepting applications for 2024.

When are Rotations Offered? We typically schedule rotations from the fall through the early spring of 4th year

Does Adobe Provide Housing for Externs? While Adobe cannot provide housing for externs, we do offer a $1,000 stipend for clinical-year externships. Visiting students are responsible for finding their own housing.

Is Adobe near any public transportation? Adobe is a 15 min walk or 6 min bike ride from the Caltrain San Antonio station.

Eligibility: This Externship is open to third and fourth-year veterinary students attending an Accredited Veterinary School. We give priority to students who are likely to pursue careers in general practice and are considering moving to the San Francisco Bay area after graduation.

When Applying, Please Submit the Following:
1) A resume or CV. Please include your expected date of graduation from veterinary
school.
2) A statement about why you would like to do a clinical rotation at Adobe Animal Hospital. Please include your areas of interest in veterinary medicine - ie surgery, emergency, etc.
3) Potential dates for your externship: We recommend September - November of your 4th year.
4) Please let us know if your school has a deadline by which you need to know if we have availability.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
