Role: Veterinary Extern – General Practice
Location: PetOne Veterinary, An NVA Training Center – Addison, IL

Stipend Amount: $1,500

Job Description: This unique externship experience focuses on clinical training. Students will work with local rescue patients gaining skills in wellness, surgery, dentistry, and sick visits. The externship will take place at our new PetOne Veterinary training facility and include rotations through local NVA GP clinics in the greater Chicago area.
PetOne Veterinary, an NVA Training Center, is built to empower the entire NVA veterinary team with world-class training to enhance skills, inspire excellence, and enable growth as ONE community with ONE purpose: to give every pet their best life.
Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians and our Mentor Doctor Team to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, developing treatment plans including diagnostics, providing dentistry services, and observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures, as well as patient care management.
In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. This experience will culminate in a job fair, where students can engage with NVA leaders across our network of clinics.
Eligibility: Class of 2026 veterinary students currently enrolled at an AVMA-Accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Students must have PLIT insurance (free with SAVMA membership) and medical insurance to participate in this externship.
How to Apply: Spots are limited due to high demand. Please submit your application by May 1st, 2025, with an anticipated selection date by May 5th, 2025. The externship will be offered to a limited number of students who will go through the program together in a group setting.
