Job Description

Come spend time with our team at our newly renovated facility. See how we function in day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Currently our appointment book consists of a variety of routine surgical procedures, more advanced soft tissue/abdominal surgical procedures, and dental prophy which utilize our hand-held dental radiograph equipment. We have also added a Voyant electrosurgery vessel sealer for our surgical procedures. In-house lab equipment includes IDEXX Catalyst, Procyte, and Sedivue. IDEXX imaging service is used for our digital radiographs. Portable ultrasound unit available for in hospital We also offer urgent care type appointments as well as sick and well visits. Patients consist mainly of canines and felines, but some exotic animals are seen at doctors' discretion. Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship experiences with Pittsburgh Premier Veterinary Care range from two to eight weeks depending on student requirements and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. We are a 2-doctor practice and looking to expand with more talented individuals
