Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Shoreline Central Animal Hospital

Job Description

Shoreline Central Animal Hospital is a modern and progressive hospital situated North of Seattle downtown. We have such an incredible clientele that are very devoted to their pets. This sets the stage for thorough diagnostic and treatment plans that will allow externs to see and experience what is possible in veterinary medicine.
We have a fully equipped surgical facility that is well suited for surgical teaching and mentorship. The veterinarians that work here are skilled and interested in collaborating with students to develop fundamental surgical skills.

Seattle is a vibrant and exciting place and that rounds out a great externship experience!

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Shoreline Central are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
