Diamond Veterinary Hospital is an AAHA-certified, 11-doctor, combination small animal emergency and general practice located in Everett, Washington. We are open 7 days per week from 8am to 6pm as a general practice and 24/7 for emergencies. Overall, we see a wide variety of cases both in our general practice and on emergency.
We are well-equipped to diagnose and treat our patients. We have a variety of equipment available including: a surgical laser; ultrasound; digital dental and tabletop radiographs; full complement of IDEXX in house lab equipment; steam autoclave and gas sterilization; ultrasonic dental scaler and high speed handpieces. Our practice management software and medical records are through Cornerstone. Our facility was remodeled in 2018 and has 8 exam rooms, a large treatment area with 5 treatment tables, a "quiet room", a separate cat room, isolation facilities, separate radiography and ultrasound rooms, a dental suite, and a surgical suite.
During the COVID pandemic, we have been early to adopt safe working practices (often ahead of mandates) with the priority of keeping our team, clients, and patients safe. We are extremely strict about allowing anyone into the building. Currently all appointments through GP and ER visits are done via curbside (with the exception of in-person euthanasia - for which we have developed a protocol that allows for us to be distanced from our clients). We have also been able to maintain our clinic growth trajectory throughout the pandemic, and we are proud to be able to continue to provide veterinary services to patients in our community.
We love having externs join us, and we are willing and excited to mentor new grads or experienced veterinarians looking for further mentorship! Learning is a huge part of our culture at Diamond.

Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to apply.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view list of stipend amounts and HERE for details on the stipend program.
