Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Parkersburg Veterinary Hospital
Job Description
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Parkersburg Veterinary Hospital is a busy 5 doctor practice in western West Virginia. We believe in a team approach and frequently bounce cases off each other, allowing for open discussions that externs can participate in. During an externship here, based on your level of education, you can expect to follow doctors in appointments and perform physical exams, help create diagnostic and treatment plans, and follow through with client communication and treatments. You will also have the opportunity to assist in surgery and, as able, perform minor procedures solo including spays and neuters. Our goal is to offer you the most real-world experience we can with the guidance of our experienced veterinary staff. We want to enhance your education with as much hands-on experience as we can.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Parkersburg Veterinary Hospital are designed for 3rd and 4th year students.
