About the Clinic:
Located in Austin, Hill Country Animal Hospital is a full-service small animal practice known for its high standard of care, compassionate team, and strong client relationships. As part of the NVA network, our clinic blends small-town warmth with access to advanced diagnostics and procedures, offering students a well-rounded, hands-on externship experience.

Externship Overview:
Veterinary students will work closely with our experienced associate veterinarians and gain practical experience in:

  • Conducting physical exams and gathering patient histories

  • Developing and implementing diagnostic and treatment plans

  • Assisting with or observing surgical and dental procedures

  • Participating in diagnostics and case management

  • Practicing communication and client education

  • Observing the operational side of a busy general practice

We’re committed to student learning and mentorship—you’ll be an active part of our medical team, not just a bystander.

Program Details:
📍 Location: Austin, TX
🕒 Duration: minimum 2 weeks, up to 4 weeks (flexible based on student/hospital schedules)
🎓 Open to: DVM students
💵 Stipend: Up to $1,500 available for students in the clinical phase
