Job Description

Externship opportunities at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists aim to develop a student’s clinical skills and decision-making abilities in a variety of specialties.  Our externships provide students the opportunity to work under the mentorship of board-certified specialists in fourteen specialty departments, including surgery, neurology, internal medicine, critical care, cardiology, diagnostic imaging & nuclear medicine, radiation & medical oncology, dermatology, avian & exotics, ophthalmology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, anesthesia, and emergency. 

Our 60,000-sq. ft. state-of-the-art hospital is equipped with 9 operating rooms, multiple procedure rooms, 3 digital radiology rooms, a large ultrasonography suite, a dedicated IR suite, a 64 slice CT scanner, an MRI, HBOT, and Halcyon stereotactic radiation therapy unit. Additional features include an in-house lab, a large Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit with an adjoining intermediate care ward, numerous outpatient wards, dedicated feline wards, dedicated exotics wards, and 24-hour emergency and ICU staff.

GCVS primarily sees referral patients from southeast Texas, western Louisiana, and the Texas Gulf coast with a wide variety of complex cases.  We have extensive training programs including specialty internships in internal medicine, surgery, neurology, diagnostic imaging, avian & exotics, dermatology, emergency, and critical care in addition to our rotating small animal internship.
