Job Description

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

· Ensure a comfortable, dry, sanitary environment for all patients; as stress-free as possible.

· Responsible for assisting in the care of hospitalized patients including keeping all wards properly cleaned and disinfected, laundry, and keeping patients clean.

· May restrain patients in a safe, efficient, compassionate, and stress-free manner during examinations and procedures. Be conscious of patient comfort needs. Know how to properly handle difficult or contentious patients.

· Unpack and stock cleaning and office supplies.

· Cleans and sanitizes cages, runs, wards, outside and related areas. Pays special attention to cleaning in corners, behind doors and under equipment, tables and chairs.

· Clean and straighten the exam rooms and public areas of the practice including the waiting area and public bathroom. Clean and maintain all medical equipment as required. Keep all areas of the hospital adequately (and not over) stocked.

· Clean and stock the restrooms.

· Ensure the property is tidy and free from refuse and feces.

· Ensures the hospital is free from odors.

· Launders patient bedding and surgical linens.

· Prepare and sanitize the surgery and dental areas.

· After successful completion of Sanitation Training, prepare surgery packs and cutting surgery drapes.

· Clean and autoclave surgical instruments.

· Basic knowledge of commonly used veterinary terminology, instruments, equipment and products.

· Follow DEA and OSHA guidelines. Follow appropriate safety and handling of hazardous materials. Follow established hospital safety guidelines regarding radiographs, animal handling etc.

· Demonstrate initiative and teamwork in everyday duties, assisting other team members within the practice.

· Complete the Kennel Attendant Daily Tasks sheets in a thorough and timely manner.

· Works independently and with a team.

· Organize the work area and exercise time management skills to maximize personal efficiency within the practice. Prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner.

· Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support Waterville Veterinary Clinic and the practice philosophy.

· Maintain a high level of confidentiality in regards to clients/patients, hospital policies and proprietary information and follow IT Security protocols.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

CONTROLS OVER WORK

The Kennel Attendant works under the direct supervision of the Kennel Attendant Lead, Hospital Manager, and Managing Veterinarian who will indicate general assignments, limitations and priorities. Recurring assignments are performed independently. Deviations or unfamiliar situations are referred to the Hospital Manager. Completed work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with established procedures.

The Kennel Attendant uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to leadership for decision or help. Leadership assures that finished work and methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with instructions or established procedures. Review of the work increases with more difficult assignments, if the Kennel Attendant has not previously performed similar assignments. Administrative supervision may be provided by the Kennel Attendant Lead.

 

Hours: Tuesday-Friday 10 am to 7 pm - NO WEEKENDS!

Base Hourly Rate: $15.50/hr - $17.00 DOE
