We are currently in the construction phase of a new 25,000 square feet hospital to open by fall 2025.
As part of the Ethos Veterinary Health network, WVRC interns have access to a growing nationwide community, advanced learning tools like VetBloom, and opportunities for involvement in groundbreaking clinical trials through Ethos Discovery.
Internship Highlights
· Mentorship & Training:
· While on ER rotations, interns benefit from primary case responsibility, 24-hour on site mentorship, and training to be a primary surgeon on ER surgical cases. As part of the Ethos network, there is access to VetBloom, an innovative learning ecosystem, allowing access to cutting edge online courses and a vast compendium of comprehensive resources. Each intern is paired with a mentor, often from their specialty of interest, offering personal and professional guidance throughout the program.
o Over 50% of our current ER team completed their internships at WVRC.
· Rotations:
o Core Rotations (6 weeks each): Critical Care, Surgery, and Internal Medicine.
o Additional Rotations (2 weeks each): Neurology and Anesthesiology.
o Elective Time (10 weeks): Options include cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, integrative medicine, or extended core rotations. External rotations are also available, as well as an emergency focused internship schedule.
o Work averages ~50 hours per week over 4–5 days.
· Learning and Development:
o Weekly didactic rounds led by specialists.
o Daily case rounds
o Monthly learning opportunities:
§ M+M rounds (case presentations by interns and staff DVMs).
§ Journal Club (presented with a specialist mentor).
Support and Work-Life Balance
· Social Support:
o Full-time social worker on staff, offering intern rounds on mental health and grief management.
o Quarterly Intern Night Out events for team bonding
· Lifestyle:
o WVRC provides easy access to the attractions of Southeastern Wisconsin including outdoor adventures on Lake Michigan, rivers, and inland lakes, as well as biking and hiking opportunities, theater and concert performances, fine dining, festivals, active nightlife scene and upscale shopping as well as an active sports scene that includes the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks and Admirals.
