Job Description

We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our BHAMC family as our primary Surgical/Dental Technician. We are an AAHA accredited hospital that offers comprehensive diagnostics & ultra-modern equipment which includes, but not limited to: pain laser therapy, Idexx In-house Lab, diagnostic imaging (including 2 digital dental units) & surgical laser.

REQUIREMENTS (skills & knowledge):

  • Surgical Prep - phlebotomy, catheterization, surgical suite setup
  • Anesthetic Monitoring 
  • Surgical Assist - general surgeries, Orthopedic, Soft Tissue
  • Dental Cleaning, Sclaing, & Polishing - dental prophylaxis, dental radiographs 
  • Surgical Recovery - extubation
  • Controlled Medication Administration - oral, topical, injectable
  • Laboratory Collection & Analysis - urinalysis, hematology, parasitology, cytology
  • Client Education - surgery, dentistry, post-op, etc.
  • Willingness to train & learn new skills/techniques not typically performed at other general practices

  • Ability to multitask: manage & prioritize multiple tasks; accurately & efficiently shift focus from one task to the next in distracting conditions & without the loss of accuracy or signs of frustration.
  • Communication skills: usage of approved medical abbreviations, records & client discharge isntructions contain appropriate grammar & spelling. Executes very strong communication skills with clients & coworkers at all levels
  • Organizational ability: demonstrates a systematic approach performing duties/tasks. Is very orderly & excels preventing/controlling times of confusion & chaos
  • Problem solving skills: demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze, & solve problems, specifically pertaining to our patients.
  • Client service skills: ensures each client is provided with attentive, courteous, & informative service while their pet is in our care. Gains personal satisfaction & drive from delivering exceptional patient care.
  • Intellectual ability: accurately & consistently follows protocols, policies, & instructions. Assists in providing direction to coworkers pertaining to surgical procedures
  • Mathematical ability: able to add, subtract, multiply & divide; ability to convert units of measurement; able to consistently & accurately calculate drug dosages (if needed)
  • Computer skills: comfortably & confidently utilize digitale systems throughout the hospital, especially the practice management software system & radiograph software

  • Knowledge of AVImark practice management software is a plus!
