This job is going to be someone who fills in where they are needed. Required to work upfront one day a week and then fill in as a tech other days. 

Job Requirements/Skills/Physical Demands

Education/Experience

·         High school graduation or equivalent

·         Basic computer literacy is required, including the ability to type on a computer keyboard, use a computer mouse, view information on a computer screen and use the Internet.

·         Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel is helpful.

·         Cashier, client service, and related front office work experience is required

Language/Communication

·         Must be able to speak, hear, read, write, and communicate clearly in English, in person, on the telephone and in writing.

·         Must be able to work within a team environment and communicate with team members effectively.

·         Must demonstrate the ability to continually provide positive and consistent client service

·         Must carry out all duties in a professional and courteous manner and remain respectful and polite in speech, tone, and actions under all circumstances

·         Must demonstrate the ability to learn and communicate to clients about hospital policies and common pet health issues and prevention

Mathematical Skills       

·         Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

·         Must be able to handle and count large amounts of cash and maintain a cash drawer

Reasoning Ability

·         Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

·         Must be able to problem solve common issues and seek guidance when appropriate

Soft Skills

·         Must have organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail despite frequent interruptions.

·         Must demonstrate personal accountability for actions and personal development.

Other Required Skills

·         Must be able to work energetically for the entire assigned shift, sometimes exceeding 9 – 10 hours per day.

·         Must be willing to complete scheduled hospital maintenance and cleaning schedules

 

Physical Demands:

·         Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds to receive delivered products.

·         Must be able to squat, kneel, and bend to access office supplies.

·         Must be able to sit for long periods of time.

·         Manual finger and wrist dexterity and ability to maintain repetitive motions for typing is required.

·         Potential exists for bite wounds, scratches, and other injuries that could be obtained by patient handling.

·         Must be able to withstand frequent exposure to unpleasant odors and noises.

·         Must be able to cope with emotionally challenging situations.

Hours

·         Hours will vary; however, shifts are generally scheduled between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm Monday-Friday

·         Saturday availability is required.

Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality is required in order to meet the needs of patients, clients, and the team.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

· Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds, and work on feet all day.

· Must be willing and able to physically hold and restrain pets

· Must be able to squat, kneel, and bend to clean cages and other areas of the hospital facility

· Exposure to anesthetic vapors, radiation, controlled drugs, zoonotic diseases, harmful chemicals, and bodily fluids of patients.

· Potential exists for bite wounds, scratches, and other injuries that could be obtained by patient handling.

· Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors and noises.

· May be involved in emotionally challenging situations.

Hours

· Hours will vary; however, shifts are generally scheduled between 7 am and 6 pm

· Regular attendance is required in order to meet the needs of patients, clients, and the team.

Essential Functions

· Provide compassionate care for pets

· Provide a positive and friendly experience for clients by being respectful and friendly to the clients and their pets

· Safely restrain pets – utilize muzzles and distraction techniques when necessary to ensure the safety of employees, clients, and patients.

· Interact with all patients throughout the day to ensure their well-being; notify a medical team member of any abnormalities.

· Follow proper leash/harness guidelines.

· Record treatments, food intake, and other important behaviors on daily treatment sheets.

· Assist Travis Country Veterinary Hospital in maintaining a paper-light practice by accurately and consistently recording actions in the hospital management software and completing tasks that have been assigned electronically within the software

· Accurately draw up and administer medication to pets, per veterinarian’s orders

· Walk, feed, and administer prescribed medications to pets according to treatment orders

· Provide clean bedding, water, and litter pans for pets

· Bathe pets and prepare pets for dismissal

· Retrieve pets that are being discharged

· Stock all areas of the hospital as needed

· Stock food and litter containers.

· Fill spray bottles and ensure that each container has a hazardous contents label.

· Cleaning and maintenance of the hospital

o   Clean the hospital daily in accordance with the maintenance log and with proper cleaning protocol.

o   Clean and sanitize all canine kennels and maintain throughout the day as needed. Clean promptly when patients are discharged.

o   Clean and sanitize all feline kennels and maintain throughout the day as needed. Clean promptly when patients are discharged.

o   Remove debris from drains at the back of runs and in the bathing tub.

o   Clean and sanitize all areas of the hospital facility including exam rooms, treatment room, isolation area, employee break room, restrooms, reception area, lobby, etc.

o   Wash and sanitize pet dishes

o   Sweep and mop floors at noon, at the end of the day, and as needed.

o   Sanitize all countertop surfaces frequently.

o   Empty trash and recycling bins at the end of the day and as needed throughout the day.

o   Wash dishes

o   Launder all dirty bedding, surgery linens, and bedding.

o   Fold all clean laundry and stock bedding

o   Other cleaning duties as assigned.

· Perform reception duties

· Perform other duties as assigned
