WHO WE ARE: NVS is a 24/7 veterinary specialty and emergency hospital. We are in a recently expanded 24,000 square foot hospital with digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), on-site magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, endoscopy, access to an on-site commercial laboratory, and more. Job Summary: Licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) are truly the lifeblood of our hospital. Without our LVT, no procedures (surgical, medical, or otherwise) would be performed on our patients. Also, we would not be able to provide the care to our patients and the guidance to their families that is required for positive patient outcomes. The following is a list of some of the many duties provided by our licensed veterinary technician
Schedule: 4 days per week, 10 hour shifts Mon-Fri
Compensation: $21-$38 per hour depending on experience
Position Responsibilities:
- Appointment intake and patient history
- Document histories, treatments, and diagnostics into Electronic Medical Record
- Must become proficient in the Electronic Medical Record within first 30 days
- Handling department voicemail, client callbacks, and documentation
- Assisting with all exams, treatments, and diagnostics (endoscopy, ultrasounds, patient exams, etc)
- Reviewing estimates with clients
- Filling patient medications
- Keeping exam rooms clean in-between patients
- Re-stock and maintain department
Required Technician Skills:
- Phlebotomy and catheterization skills
- Patient restraint and handling skills
- Anesthesia trained (Required to participate in weekend anesthesia on-call)
- Patient radiograph skills- positioning and technique
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Pharmacology and medication administration skills
- Doctor assistant/anticipation skills- endoscopy, ultrasounds, diagnostics and studies, patient exams, etc
- Good working knowledge of ultrasound and equipment associated with Internal Medicine
Qualifications:
- LVMT CVT, LVT, RVT, or VTS licensure and at least two (2+) years of veterinary hospital experience; Must have specialty experience in internal medicine. Must obtain Tennessee Licensure within 90 days of start date.
- Must have broad technical abilities
- Possesses a calm demeanor in stressful situations and high emotional intelligence
- Skilled in veterinary triage, diagnostics, and nursing
- Must have strong veterinary medical knowledge and a detailed understanding of common disease processes and pharmacology
- Must be able to perform quick and efficient diagnostics, treatment, and procedures
- Must be exemplary in customer service, critical thinking, team-oriented attitude
Physical/Environmental Requirements: This job classification requires that the applicant be capable of standing continuously for up to four hours with little or no breaks during; sitting; required to lift and carry animals weighing fifty pounds or more; handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.; reaching; speaking; seeing; and hearing. This job classification also involves repetitive use of the hands, wrists, and arms. Individuals must be able to meet the minimum dexterity requirements of the position. This position involves a potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and the use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
