Job Summary
A Veterinary Technician supports our veterinary team by providing hands-on patient care, assisting during procedures, and ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient hospital environment. They are quick learners with a passion for animals, a strong work ethic, and the ability to stay calm and professional in a fast-paced setting. Veterinary Technicians work closely with veterinarians and credentialed technicians, gaining skills and experience through mentorship and training while making a direct impact on the health and comfort of our patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
- Safely restrain animals for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Perform basic patient care tasks such as feeding, watering, bathing, and cleaning kennels or hospital areas
- Prepare and set up equipment and supplies for procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
- Process lab samples and run in-house diagnostic tests as trained
- Accurately update patient records in the hospital computer system
- Communicate with clients regarding basic home care instructions, preventive health, and medication administration as directed by the veterinarian
- Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and report changes to the supervising veterinarian or technician
- Stock supplies and assist with inventory management
- Follow safety and infection control protocols to protect patients, clients, and team members
Qualifications
- Previous experience in veterinary medicine, animal care, or a related field preferred
- Willingness to learn veterinary terminology, procedures, and patient care protocols
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including some weekends and holidays
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
- Comfortable handling animals of various sizes and temperaments
- Ability to stay composed and efficient in high-pressure situations
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow instructions precisely
Skills
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn veterinary practice management software
- Understanding of animal handling and restraint techniques
- Commitment to compassionate care for pets and respectful communication with clients
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
