JOB TITLE: Emergency Services Technician Supervisor (Swing/Overnight)

DEPARTMENT: Clinical 

SUPERVISOR: Clinical Operations Manager

The Clinical Supervisor is an experienced Veterinary Technician who possesses advanced people skills, empathy, leadership skills, time management, and multi-tasking/priority management. His/her primary responsibility is overseeing patients and operations of the emergency department while on shift. The Clinical Supervisor is a working role, and is expected to lead by example; and will serve as a charge nurse and perform necessary administrative duties.

This position is collaborative in nature and responsible for communicating protocol changes, organizational/hospital news, staffing changes, and/or other pertinent information in a positive and timely fashion. Additionally, (s)he will facilitate interdepartmental communication and workflow; and identify gaps in protocols and processes to enhance and protect the patient/client/staff experience. The Clinical Supervisor will have dedicated administrative time. Such time will not exceed 30% of scheduled time, unless otherwise approved by the Clinical Operations Mansager or Hospital Director.

Essential Functions:

• Provide leadership by supervising clinical support teams to facilitate effective patient care delivery. • Provides total patient care; and assists others with patient care duties/tasks, i.e., diagnostics, treatment, ambulation, elimination, etc. • Plans and directs care of emergency patients • Assign patient responsibilities to ER team based on each staff member’s level of competence. • Monitor the condition of patients under their charge, recognize changes in patient condition, implement appropriate interventions, continuity of care, and patient safety. • Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use, i.e., IV Pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage/suction devices, etc. • Initiates emergency support measures, ACLS, protecting patient from injury. • Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety. • Ensure adherence to the hospital’s policies and maintain compliance with standards of practice. • Educate staff regarding the use of all equipment and supplies, safe patient handling techniques, safety procedures, and infection control. • Maintains knowledge of PIMS documentation expectations required for patient records. • Correspond with DVM’s to ensure that all information is readily available to support team/patient care providers. • Ensures that patient care supplies, equipment, and environment are appropriately maintained. • Manage concerns about patient care, work environment, or co-worker performance, and report to Clinical Operations Manager and HR in a timely fashion • Escalate questions or concerns pertaining to medical care delivery to the Medical Director and Hospital Director, as needed. • Collaborate with the Clinical Trainer to onboard new hires and provide orientation, training, & development for staff and students, as requested. • Deescalate potentially volatile situations involving clients and/or team members. • Develop and post schedules for emergency teams 1-3 months in advance, and approve time sheets every 2 weeks prior to biweekly payroll. • Works assigned rotating shifts that may include weekends and holidays. • Perform other duties as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensed Veterinary Technician • Completion of an AVMA-Accredited Veterinary Technician Program • 4+ years Emergency veterinary experience required. • 3+ years supervisory experience required. Veterinary medicine preferred. • Currently licensed in GA state, or able to transfer an out of state technician license if applicable. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Strong work ethic and a cheerful outlook. • Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations. • Ability to function as a team player and foster collaborative work environment • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments/duties
