Veterinary Technician Job Description

Position Summary:
The Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to animals. This role involves patient care, client communication, and technical procedures to ensure the health and well-being of pets while fostering a positive client experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures

  • Perform diagnostic tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams

  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed

  • Monitor anesthesia and recovery of patients during surgical procedures

  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples

  • Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, and home treatment plans

  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure proper documentation

  • Provide compassionate care, handling, and restraint of animals

  • Perform dental cleanings, radiographs, and other advanced procedures (as permitted by state law)

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment, exam, and surgical areas

  • Ensure proper inventory and stocking of medical supplies

Qualifications:

  • Licensed/Certified/Registered Veterinary Technician (depending on state requirements)

  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in animal handling and patient care

 

Work Environment:
Veterinary Technicians work in clinical settings including exam rooms, surgical suites, and laboratories. The role requires direct interaction with animals, clients, and veterinary team members.
