Veterinary Surgical Hospitalist

Care Center - Dayton

Job Description

The Surgical Hospitalist will work at Care Center - Dayton with our Staff Surgeon on surgery days to aid in efficiency and workflow. The Surgical Hospitalist will be available for emergency procedures as needed and complex cases (i.e. fractures, gallbladders) will be transferred to the surgeon in Cincinnati. The Surgical Hospitalist will assist in Dayton and Cincinnati hospital on-call responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and/or assist during scheduled and work-in procedures with Staff Surgeon.
  • Provide perioperative supervision and treatment orders for surgery patients.
  • Be available for emergency procedures whenever not performing surgery.
    • Catheterization, tube placement
    • Wound care, laceration repairs
  • See appointments under the supervision of Staff Surgeon
    • Rechecks
    • Wound management
    • Non-surgical fracture management
  • Facilitate post-operative visits (suture removals, bandage changes, etc) in the absence of Staff Surgeon
  • Be available for emergent procedures, such as:
    • Wounds, laceration repairs
    • Catheterization, tube placement
    • GDVs
    • C-sections, pyometras
    • GIFB
  • Primary case responsibility for surgery inpatients in the absence of Staff Surgeon on Fridays
On-call for emergency surgeries overnight; Cincinnati Staff Surgeon available for complex cases
